POSITION SUMMARY 

The Paper Production Technician I is responsible for performing work duties of three identified skills/jobs as the skill is learned and certified: Utility Technician, Winder Assistant Technician, and Inbound TechnicianAdditionally, the Paper Production Technician II will train, and develop a competency in a cross-over skill from Paper Production Technician II role. Proficiency of each skill is acquired through a combination of academic training and testing, and on the job training/demonstration of skill. 

This position works a DuPont Schedule consisting of 12 hour rotating shifts - working nights, days, and weekends. Working 14 days out of a 28 day cycle. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Successfully complete all required training/demonstration hours, successfully pass all required tests, successfully complete all safety requirements and OJT (on the job) training and SOP’s (standard operating procedures).
  • Complete and prepares customer orders with the JDEdwards (operation software) 
  • Create and submit work orders (repairs) as needed to ensure notification to responsible departments of necessary reportsEnsures work orders are completed in a manner that provides all the details and information necessary to effectively review and prioritize submitted work orders
  • Housekeeping, HSG attendance/participation, support mill goals, maintain a safe work environment, identify opportunities for process improvement (act on them), and maintain a professional working relationship with all team members.
  • Assist in threading of the machine during paper break events. Helping to remove can wraps during breaks.
  • Assist in fabric and rope changes on the paper machine.
  • Train apprentices to learn machine duties to increase production, execute preventive maintenance on machines to prevent down time and to ensure a sustainable and well-trained workforce.

  

SKILL:  Utility Technician: 

  • Responsible for assisting in the operation of stock preparation equipment in a highly automated paper mill.  Responsible for monitoring and assisting in the operation of all plant systems on a continuous basis. Operate production equipment in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures (SOP). Assist in bypass processing equipment using air, manual hand, and chain valves as needed.
  • Use LOTO (Lock out tag out)/line break to ensure zero energy and unplug stock prep cleaners and equipment.
  • Loads and unloads supplies with a forkliftLoads/off loads parts, chemical totes, and materials using a forkliftOperate skid steer w/grapple bucket and move paper/materials as neededOperate bale clamp truck/turn a fork truck to move and dump dumpsters.  Operate Scissor lift when neededCertified and operate a 40-ton hoist crane, clamshell hoist and deck crane hoists (screen, decker, and dry polymer).  Prepares and rinses used totes for return.
  • Operates a high-pressure washer to unplug and clean equipment when needed.
  • Communicates process events to both supervisors and on-coming shift team members
  • Monitor and troubleshoot equipment, processes, and operational anomalies.  Direct equipment issues to proper personnel (CRO) Control Room Operator/Team Leader/Maintenance Tech) to correct problems as they occur.

SKILL:  Winder Assist Technician: 

  • Assist in machine set-up based on specifications, trouble-shooting problems and coming up with solutions.
  • Visually inspect equipment and controls at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repairInspect machine/equipment for hazards, operating efficiency, malfunctions, wear, and leaks.
  • Read, follow, and complete our customer trim scheduleAssist in setting up cutting slitters to cut rolls to customer specificationsCut cores using an electric core saw to correct sized cores.  Operate conveyor system, measure and label rolls, record data and ensure roll meets all visual quality specs (monitor web detection system).
  • Fill and thread automatic banding system.  Remove stub (butt) rolls to proper staging area.
  • Cleans, maintains, and repairs equipment, using hand tools, or request that repair and maintenance work be performed.
  • Assist in setting up and operating production equipment in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures (SOP). Change out slitter blades and bands as needed.
  • Performs LOTO (lock out tag out) of associated equipment.
  • Responsible for communicating process events to DE Tech’s, supervisors, and on-coming shift team members.
  • Certified and operate a 40-ton crane to move spools and paper rollOperate skid steer w/grapple attachment to move paper.

SKILL:  Inbound Technician: 

  • Safely unload bales from trailers. Ensure safe bale moving, feeding, and stacking is performed. Ability to stack bales in warehouse using bale clamp truck.  Safely run bales over wire cutter to ensure even and proper feed.
  • Monitors quality of incoming OCC materialsQuality checks/identifies and segregates bales that are of questionable quality.
  • Effectively communicates to carriers/drivers to ensure accuracy in information shared, and to provide good customer service
  • Clean and inspect bale clamp trucksReport all repairs needed to TL/Maintenance and report in logbook and e-logger.  Refuel trucks as needed.
  • Operate hydraulic dock lock/bridge to ensure safe operation in and out of trailers.

  

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS  

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 1-3 Years of previous manufacturing experience required 
  • Mobile Equipment and Overhead Crane certified
  • Ability and desire to work rotating 12-hour work shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
