POSITION SUMMARY
As an Accountant with Liberty Packaging, this position will be integral to the Finance team's accounting, reporting, and financial control processes that fuel operational and financial success. Responsibilities include day-to-day accounting, reporting, and financial control support for the company. The Accountant will drive innovation through process improvement, data analysis, and supporting initiatives to further Liberty Packaging's reputation and long-standing success.
This hybrid position is located at Rock Island, IL, and reports directly to the Finance Manager at Liberty Packaging's offices in Golden Valley, MN.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner closely with all departments to ensure the accuracy and validity of financial data using established processes, systems, and guidelines.
- Execute daily transaction posting processes - investigating, analyzing, and resolving related issues or variances as they arise.
- Process and approve payables invoices with accurate coding; research and follow-up on issues that arise during invoice processing to ensure data accuracy.
- Responsible for accurate and timely reporting and tracking of all financial data, including P&L and Balance Sheet, to ensure a timely monthly and year-end close.
- Support the Finance Manager by creating and maintaining entries for the month-end process, including Prepaids, AP, RNV, inventory, and various accruals.
- Research information, support documentation, and deliver on requested reporting needs to provide accurate and timely support to the Finance Manager for annual audits.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, perform regular audits, and ensure compliance with inventory accounting standards.
- Support region finance and accounting continuous improvement by developing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures, where applicable.
- Ensure work practices follow company policies, procedures, and standards as outlined.
- Develop and implement new programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate to ensure financial reporting requirements are met.
- Serve as a liaison between business and corporate accounting.
- Participate in and support cycle counts and full inventory counts
- Support the Finance Manager with the creation of budgets and forecasts as needed.
- Partner with the business unit management team to oversee and manage the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) processes. Oversee Fixed Asset and track fixed asset spending in relation to its capital budget.
- Assist with other accounting tasks and projects as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of general Accounting or Finance experience
- Working knowledge of GAAP principles
- Previous experience in advanced Excel functions, i.e., Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Conditional Formatting, IF statements.
- Excellent critical thinking and research skills; able to take ownership and drive issues to completion
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments; a firm understanding of the manufacturing process
- Strong organizational skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to travel up to 10%
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Experience with ERP systems
- Experience in manufacturing
- Experience with cost accounting
