POSITION SUMMARY

The Planner Scheduler’s core responsibility is creating the production schedule and ensuring the optimization of equipment utilization, as well as on-time fulfilment of customer demand.

 

This role works closely with production leaders, sales, and customer service to prioritize work orders and customer requirements. Communicates schedules and schedule changes effectively. This position will report to the Plant Manager and is based out of our plant in Houston, Texas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and update production schedules to ensure continuous plant operations and prevent machine downtime. Communicate production schedules out to the production floor based on customer orders and deadlines.
  • Communicate with customer service, sales, shipping, and production to provide real time information regarding machine breakdowns, late shipments, expedited orders, or lack of supplies.
  • Plan and modify daily production schedules this includes accommodating new information, coordinating with leaders when issues arise to conduct analysis of root cause and seeking to prevent future issues. Where root cause is cross-functional, collaborate with others on solutions.
  • Ensure waste is minimized through scheduling of seamless production handoffs between departments. Identifies production bottlenecks and collaborates with operations leaders to resolve them.
  • Responsible for forecasting paper roll use and managing onsite inventory in partnership with suppliers.
  • Communicates proactively to build relationships and trust with stakeholders to allow rapid problem-solving when required. Escalates issues appropriately.
  • Collaborates with production, sales, and customer service to ensure current and accurate information is used to inform inventory levels and strategies.
  • Review prior day reports to ensure orders were successfully delivered by carriers and received by customers.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Highschool Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution 
  • Previous manufacturing experience
  • Previous experience leading projects or initiatives

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Business/technical degree, equivalent experience, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous experience in corrugated, folding carton, or paper manufacturing industries
  • Experience of having a leadership role within a manufacturing setting is a plus   
  • Strong understanding of business system software
  • Problem analysis/solving- formal training is highly preferred
