POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental Engineer supports the Environmental, Health and Safety programs and LPI team members to foster a “Safety First” culture, ensuring compliance with EHS regulations and company EHS policies and programs. Serving as an environmental resource for LPI, the Environmental monitors operations for environmental compliance, assesses proposed projects and modifications for environmental impacts, and implements solutions to environmental issues. Additional responsibilities include analyzing data to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance and ensuring LPI’s product regulatory compliance programs comply with all applicable legal requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as a resource to LPI team members by providing guidance on day-to-day implementation of EHS programs.
- Assists in providing annual environmental training and initial orientation training of new team members.
- Participates in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action identification and compile statistical reports.
- Develops and implements Environmental, Health and Safety programs and procedures and update as necessary to ensure compliance. Collaborates with cross functional teams to identify and drive improvements in Environmental, Health, and Safety performance.
- Monitors air emissions, hazardous and solid waste generation, wastewater, stormwater and chemical usage for waste minimization and regulatory tracking.
- Analyzes operational data, performs calculations, and prepares reports for environmental compliance.
- Reviews new processes and process modifications for environmental impacts.
- Ensures product regulatory compliance through collection of supplier compliance documents, product testing, and monitoring of upcoming regulatory changes.
- Conducts environmental inspections and audits and implements corrective actions based on audit findings.
- Assists in overseeing emergency response programs and procedures, including organization of response drills and provides clear direction to all LPI team members.
- Manages the EHS SharePoint portal, ensuring all documents are current and updated as needed.
- Supports efforts to maintain ISO 14001 certification and prepares and participates in audits.
- Electronically maintains Safety Data Sheets to ensure compliance with OSHA.
- Maintains and monitors environmental records and metrics for inspection and auditing.
- Analyze effluent treatment plant operations for improvements and implement trials.
- Performs other duties and assumes accountability as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering or closely related Engineering field.
- 2+ years of manufacturing experience
- Excellent judgment and decision making with ability to analyze data.
- Possesses complex problem-solving skills
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications, or willingness to obtain
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong and comprehensive computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office suite.
