POSITION SUMMARY

The Human Resources Manager is a critical member of the site leadership team for our facility in Becker, MN and of the enterprise-wide Human Resources Leadership team. This role supports a facility of 165+ employees, adding value by providing support in the areas of business partnership, sourcing and talent acquisition, employee relations, employee and community engagement, project leadership, continuous improvement, data governance, training oversight and cyclical process ownership. Reporting to this role is an HR Business Partner and a Training Manager to ensure effective support for human resources and training responsibilities.

 

This onsite position is based at our paper mill in Becker, MN, and reports to LDI’s Chief Human Resources Officer with a dotted/dual line to the Vice President, Liberty Paper. Liberty Paper is a 24/7/365 100% recycled paper mill that recycles old, corrugated containers (OCC) into kraft liner board for new corrugated packaging. In addition to paper roll stock, Liberty Paper also produces coated paper solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides strategic human resources support to the business unit leadership team. Serves as an active member of the business leadership team, participating in weekly leadership meetings, quarterly and annual strategy planning, and business review processes.
  • Develops business acumen to understand key drivers/priorities and then formulates and executes appropriate solutions to support business performance that drives results. Coaches’ leaders and their teams on how to connect business strategy to people strategy.  Builds leader capability and reinforces accountability in the areas of talent, leadership, and culture.
  • Leverages best practices, processes, policies, and procedures to resolve issues. Identifies continuous improvement opportunities, shares feedback with partners, and develops solutions to common issues.
  • Provides data-driven insights for decision making and strategic workforce planning; recommend revision to or creation of new strategies.
  • Leverages and enforces processes and technologies to support delivery of services; works in close partnership with Enterprise Solutions team to deliver recurring end-to-end services and processes (i.e. Performance Management, Talent Planning, Succession Planning, Merit Planning, Learning Management System (for Technical Training programs) etc.)
  • Conducts annual employee engagement survey, analyzes data, and communicates results. Leads site through development and execution of action plans to address opportunities.
  • Leads business unit talent acquisition activities including maintaining job descriptions to reflect current role responsibilities in job postings, and managing the recruitment, interviewing, selection, and onboarding processes, in partnership with enterprise Talent Acquisition. Identifies and develops creative sourcing strategies.
  • Conducts thorough, objective, and timely investigations as needed. Assesses risks related to employment matters and coaches’ leaders in a manner consistent with company policy and practice.  Consults with corporate legal as needed. 
  • Drives innovation in HR functions and processes. Leads and / or participates in business unit and enterprise-level people projects.
  • Consults with leaders regarding compensation strategy and processes, ensuring alignment and equity in salary recommendations for internal transfers and promotions. 
  • Oversees technical training program, setting direction for continuous improvement in training practices, in partnership with Training Manager.
  • Leads or supports the site Community Action Team activities, ensuring alignment with Enterprise Solutions team guidelines.
  • Leads the business unit Employee Activities team, in developing an annual calendar and budget for employee engagement events.   Leads or oversees activities related to the planning and execution of these events.
  • Support health, safety, and environment initiatives and programs and facilitate a safe and healthy culture.
  • Other duties, as assigned

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or similar discipline
  • 5+ years HR Business Partner / HR Generalist experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Analytical and problem-solving experience, with the ability to see hidden problems and look beyond the obvious for answers, uses data to make decisions
  • Experience with conflict management
  • Solid interpersonal, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to engage with others authentically, establish trust, build long-lasting relationships - influence at all levels
  • Experienced organizational and time management skills; multi-tasking and prioritizing, planning work activities efficiently to meet deadlines and high-level goals; managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, MBA, or a related field
  • Experience supporting a 24/7/365 operation highly desired
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • PHR / SPHR or SHRM-CP / SRHM-SCP certification strongly preferred
  • Previous project management experience
  • Ability to build relationships and trust with strong skills in coaching and mentoring
